Rim Serial Number Lookup
Hi all, I have a Specialized Transition tri bike, 2007 model bought new not so long ago. It came with ZIPP carbon rims. The rear wheel has cracked, after about 1000 miles on pretty good sealed roads (the odd pothole/bump, but nothing startling).
In doing some research, I cannot work out what model rim it is exactly; in fact I can't find anything that looks like it anywhere! I've attached a couple of pics, would appreciate if anyone can tell me what it is? I'm concerned it might be a knock-off (this is Asia after all) in which case my bike shop and I will be having a friendly chat. (sorry photo quality isn't much). Any help appreciated!
Wheel Serial Number. The serial number for your wheels can be found inside the rim (under your tire). The serial is the seven digit number that typically starts with a “1”. Enter your model number and click the Search. Find your specific model and serial number in the list and. To the left before using the Toro Master PartsViewer. Automotive Mileposts decodes Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury part numbers, casting numbers, and date codes.
Thanks for the replies. The sticker gives recommended tire pressures, nothing else.
Apart from the main logos, there's no other markings of any kind on the rims. There are no dimples (which is partly what got me wondering) - i've been through the zipp site, and can find no mention of the red on silver decals, and no carbon deep rims without dimples! All zipp rims appear to have something identifying the model #, but not mine. You are spot on, the bikepedia link is exactly the bike I have. The only difference appears to be the wheels - all the other specs are identical, and the price looks about right (less a bit for the fact the bike is an 07 model bought in 09.). Thanks - very helpful. I'll check for the serial # decal - but don't believe there's one there, unless the tyre pressure sticker is right on top of it.
Sigle Cartoni Animati Download. The carbon appears to be a cross-weave, which would make them pre-2002 (timeline states for 2002 that '. Now smooth unidirectional fibers without any weave'. Still, I'm slightly happier being sold 8-year old genuine wheels than fakes.
Anyway, off to the shop this afternoon to see what the story is. If they're genuine, they should be under warranty - or at worst replaceable under the Zipp crash/repair program - and if they're not. I mainly wanted to do a little research before talking to the shop, so thanks all who replied.
Cheers Geoff. With that rim, one of the best ways to identify a Zipp produced wheel even if another brand is on it (Reynolds, Elite and so forth) is that on the inside of the carbon rim, sort of at the 'wing tip' you will see where the rim goes to a woven carbon pattern for about 1/4' on the circumference where the spoke holes are drilled.
I really doubt that those are 2008 model 404 if they have no dimples, they very easily however could be a 2008 model of the 'pre-dimple' rims that are now being sold under the other labels. Like others said would need better images to know for certain. ---------------------------------------------------------- What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?
